Dear doctors, from what i've heard from relatives and online , statins have severe side effects on liver and muscles. Then why are people put on statins?? And is there any way to reduce it's side effects? My dad is on tab. Rosuvas 10 mg. Please shed some light on this topic. Are statins safe or what?

Statin group of drugs are given for hyperlipidemia.sometimes it's given adjunct with antihypertensive drug. There's few side effects of statin drug like steatorrhea, farting, dizziness etc. which can be continued as long-term.If one drug has effect than that also have side effects but when doctor prescribed the medicine he informed about the side effects of drug to the patient.
Next Steps
If patient is known case of hypertension or hyperlipidemia or CVA then continue the medicine and do the lipid profile every 6month . If reports seems to be normal then continue with lower dose of statin as prophylaxis.

.statin can cause below side effects but useful in cardiac related issues dizziness. feeling sick. feeling unusually tired or physically weak. digestive system problems, such as constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion or farting. muscle pain. sleep problems. low blood platelet count
