Should I get a tonsillectomy?

Hello, I am a 25 (soon to be 26) year old female weighing about 112 pounds. My ENT recommended that I get a tonsillectomy, but I would like second opinion. I visited him for allergy issues not throat issues. He has told me that my tonsils are very large and he worries that if I'm older and gain weight it could lead to sleep apnea. I am also of Asian decent and was told that it makes me more prone to sleep apnea. I do not have recurring sore throats or feel any issues because of my tonsils other than some snoring. The only time I ever had issues was back in 2010 when I first started dorming in college and had 3 strep throats in a year. I haven't had any issues since then. He recommends that I get them removed while I am young as the recovery would be easier. Do you feel that I should get my tonsils removed?

Hello there. I can understand your concern. Yes. In my opinion. He is right. You should go ahead with the tonsillectomy. What he is telling is in your best interest only. But anyways, ultimately it's your decision to make. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain. Bangalore.
