Short throbbing pain in upper left chest

Every few months I have an "episode" of a short throbbing pain in my upper left chest (toward the center just below my collarbone) during which the pain lasts a second or two, goes away for minute, and then returns for another second or two. The pain is best described as sudden and throbbing and it's highly localized. I can point right to it. Help!
