Your symptoms are suggestive of costochondritis. Costochondritis is an inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone, or sternum. The condition causes localized chest pain that you can reproduce by pushing on the cartilage in the front of your rib cage. Costochondritis is a relatively harmless condition and usually goes away without treatment. The cause is usually unknown, but may happen from increased activity involving the arms. Since the condition is persistent I would advise you to visit the ER so that you can be examined and undergo investigations such as X-Ray to find the underlying cause and have it treated accordingly. You may require a smooth muscle relaxant and a topical analgesic. The following steps may help:
- Apply a hot water bag over the area that hurts.
- Avoid strenuous exercises
- Stay well hydrated, Drink 3 liters of water per day
- Rest well, an adult male requires around 8 hours of sleep per day
If the problem persists or worsens visit the nearest ER at the earliest
