Human brain responds differently to different stimuli like shapes, texture, sounds, etc. For most of the persons, the opposite sex figure elicits sexual arousal. However, some people get arousal from both sexes, and some only from same sex. The latter is the case in homosexuality. It is difficult to separate sexual and romantic attraction usually, because of close association.
