From the information you provided it seems both, you and your mother have migrain. I am suggesting following measures, please follow these, if the problem still persists, please consult a Nuerologist
1. Have at least seven hour of undisturbed sleep.
2. Do regular physical exercise.
3. Learn meditation and Pranayam and do it regularly.
4. Do not remain empty stomach for long time, have multiple small meals several time a day.
