Serum lipase levels is done to check for possibility of pancreatitis.  If the level is 88 you need not have to worry as in cases of pancreatitis the levels usually ate very high sometimes in few hundreds rarely in thousands also. Upper abdominal pain in ur case may be due many other causes like gastritis/hiatus hernia/gall bladder stones
