Removal of implants

I fractured my right humerus 6.5 years ago and had surgery with 2 plates and 9 screws as it was a comminuted fracture. I have almost 90% of range of motion now and don't have any discomfort. I'm able to lift weights in gym as well. I thought of having the implants removed 2 years ago but due to pandemic, i couldn't. Now i would like to have the implants removed after 6.5 years of surgery. My question is will there be any complications? I know that removal of implants gets difficult with time as excess bone grows on implants. Can you please advise if it will be really difficult to remove them. My concern is if i don't have them removed now, the implants might get loosen somehow with time and give complications. I'm willing to have them removed now after 6.5 years. Please advice...

Removal of implants should be straight forward. About bony overgrowth, an X-ray will give an idea. I generally advise my patients care for about 6 weeks.

Get a recent x ray of elbow and arm done. I advise implant removal in elbow only if they start loosening or poking somewhere. Duration since surgery may make it slightly tougher. Locking titanium plates are lot more difficult to remove. Sometimes cold welding happens.
