My mother age 79. Doctor advised to do lipid profile and apolipoprotein b as a part of routine annual check up. She is not taking any medicine for sugar or BP etc. Her triglycerides is slightly higher. But in lab, they are asking me to do lipoprotein a test. I am not able to contact my doctor as he's out of station. Can anyone please guide me and let me know the difference between two and which test to be undertaken. Thank you

At age 79 lipoprotein a test has not much significance as it represents genetic predisposition to atherosclerotic changes. Its ur choice if you want you can get it done..will not add much to treatment protocol
