Alcohol use disorder is a serious mental health problem.
Person starts using alcohol initially under excitement or as an adventure in adolescence or young adulthood.
Then he drinks occasionally, on social occasions or festivals. Then he starts drinking in moderate amount 2-3 times in a week. Then daily. He thinks that everything is under control. But after sometime, Alcohol controls that person.
In your father's case also there might be the same reasons. By nature he might be a good person, but at the same time alcohol controls your father.
Counseling and motivational interviewing helps him control his problems.
If he develops withdrawal symptoms, then medications are required to control them.
