Prolonged Cough and Chest Congestion

I have been having Coughing problem for around past 2 weeks now. Shown to a doctor and taking following medicines for ~3 days now but don't see an improvement. Irritation/Burning sensation in the chest leads to long coughing followed by vomiting (just water/saliva), trouble sleeping in the night. I feel dry mucus in my chest, not able to get it out resulting in long coughing. Will a good expectorant help here, any other suggestions?
