Pain and Tingling in Middle Finger

2021-08-08 21:05:05
2 months ago, I was weighing cylinder when the weight went mostly to middle finger. This caused tingling sensation but no pain. But after 1 month, the pain started and is not going away. Instead it is now radiating to arm. Doctor said it's peripheral neuropathy but he didn't recommend any diagnostic tests. He has prescribed me pain medicine and Gabapentin tablets. I want to ask do I need brace/splint for arm? Is my median nerve compressed? Does it get better on its own? How to fasten the recovery process?

Hi, It seems you have read quite a few things for your pain. Now let us understand pain going to arm. Your arm has 3 major nerves 1) Radial 2) Median 3) Ulnar You are right that your median nerve might have stretched. But along with nerve there are other structures in hand. Also I need to know what is distribution of pain in arm...whether it is in front or back of arm. Also what is your occupation? It is quite common these days to have cervical nerve compressions in your age.
Next Steps
1) Make sure they there is no weakness in hand grip 2) You may need get ENMG/NCV of your hand to see if your nerves are really affected.

You can definitely add a neutral splint. Extent of injury can be found emg ncv by measuring slowing of nerve conduction and amplitude. Add nerve vitamins for fast recovery with rest to the area affected.
