Hello Doctors,
Greetings. I don't know how to share this. Many of my friends in this lockdown have been diagnosed with cysts.. I don't understand how they are affecting so many women in their child bearing age. Many of my friends are in their 30s ,unmarried and virgins. Many have functional cysts and few have dermoids.. I am getting scared.. Can you pls explain why cysts are occurring. Any info would be highly appreciated.

Functional cyst of ovary is very common condition
Disturbed ovulation ending into growth of follicle results into functional cyst
Many are diagnosed as much of anxiety n insecurities are prevailing
Dermoid cyst is since birth which gradually grows n has potential to grow towards malignancy
Endimetriotic cyst is associated with presence of endometriosis in ovarian tissue that bleeds with every menses and gradually makes chocolate cyst

Functional cyst of ovary is not a disease
The name itself says functional that means a part of its function as a egg releasing organ of body
Functional cyst include follicular cysts and corpus luteal cyst they will disappear after 4 -6 months on their own

Having said that it it also true that malignant and benign tumours of the ovary also present as cysts

So one must carefully look at the size and vascularise of the cyst and see for any tumour markers in serum. Functional cyst is a happy diagnosis. So don’t worry about it
Dermoids are less frequent though they sometimes become cancerous and undergo torsion. We do laparoscopic removal for dermoids.Dermoids are a birth defect and not related to environmental or lifestyle factors
