Pain may be from two most probable reasons, first - due to muscle spasm due to external trauma or all of sudden movement during sleep or otherwise, or it could be early starting of cervical spondylosis. In both cases, application of cold fermentation, rest, shoulder retraction and chin tucks will be helpful, try and avoid painkiller, at same time take hourly break to stretch your spine while working.
