Your symptoms of morning loose stools after cholecystectomy are a well-recognized condition known as Post-cholecystectomy Diarrhoea.
Why does this happen?
• After gallbladder removal, bile flows continuously into the intestine rather than being stored and released in a controlled manner.
• This excess bile in the colon can irritate the lining, leading to bile acid–induced diarrhoea, especially in the morning.
• Your normal endoscopy, blood tests, and stool reports are reassuring and rule out infection or other major diseases.
Next Steps
What can be done?
1. Dietary modification:
• Avoid very fatty, oily, or spicy food.
• Take small, frequent meals.
• Add soluble fibre (psyllium husk/Isabgol, oats) which binds bile acids.
2. Medications (as needed):
• Bile acid binders like Cholestyramine help neutralize bile acids and reduce diarrhoea.
• Loperamide can be used occasionally if urgency is severe.
• Probiotics may help improve gut balance.
3. Lifestyle:
• Maintain hydration.
• Regular exercise and stress reduction (since IBS-like features can overlap).
