Missing period after abortion

HI, I am a 26 year old female. I got an unwanted pregnancy and got it surgically removed on April 13th. Doctor informed that the next period should come by 13th May. It's 10 days above and am missing my period still. Some articles said that a blood pregnancy test would give a false positive so I haven't opted for it yet. How should I go about it?
