If what you have mentioned, is your regular period flow, then nothing to worry about (regarding your period cycle) but if there has been changes in menstrual blood flow over the past year, along with depressive symptoms in the luteal phase (2 weeks post ovulation), could be linked to hormonal fluctuations, particularly in estrogen and progesterone levels.
Estrogen plays a role in regulating mood by influencing serotonin, while progesterone can have calming or depressive effects. An imbalance in these hormones—such as estrogen dominance or progesterone deficiency—may contribute to both altered menstrual flow (heavier or lighter periods) and mood disturbances.
Symptoms might include irritability, fatigue, mood swings, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and physical discomfort like bloating or headaches etc.
Firstly you should get your hormonal profile done including
thyroid profile. If needed USG both ovaries to rule out PCOS. For the depressive symptoms that you experience prior the period there can be two possibilities- in case of hormonal imbalance— correcting it would automatically resolve the symptoms and if the hormonal profile comes out to be normal than it could be PMDD(pre menstrual dysphoric disorder) which needs psychiatric evaluation and management.
Next Steps
