Stool Culture and Gram Stain (Bacteria). Stool Fecal Occult Blood (Bleeding). Stool C. Diff Toxin (Clostridium Difficile). Stool Fecal Fat (Steatorrhea).
Health Tips
TX – Fluid replacement ORS/IVF. Meds: Loperamide start 4mg x 1, then 2mg after each loose stool, Bismuth. Specific Tx: • Giardia – Metronidazole 250mg PO TID x 5-7 days. • Shigella – Ciprofloxacin 500mg BID. • C. Diff – Metronidazole 500mg PO Q8Hrs x 10-14 days. • Travelers – Azithromycin 500mg PO QD x 1-3 days. • Salmonella – Ciprofloxacin 500mg BID. • E. Coli – Ciprofloxacin 500mg BID x 3 days. • C. Jejuni - Azithromycin 500mg QD.
