Is there any complication in appendectomy?

I have a strong unbearable pain on the right side of my stomach. It is happening regular so showed it to my doctor. After sonography he suggested me remove my appendix as it was infected, hence I had pain. I have never been admitted to any hospital ever so very scared. please tell me is there any complications in appendectomy?
