He is currently taking one BP med. Other readings have been 143/80. So, is 149/72 good or bad? Will I need to change medications.

Depends what problems he got. If BP is the only problem, than it's OK. If he got Diabetes, or CKD or any other problem, than we need lower systolic levels . All the best
