Irritated throat after sexual intercours
Hello Doctor,
I had sexual intercourse with someone I met through a dating app. The date was the 2nd of August,2026. I used condoms during intercourse... but I performed oral sex without any protection.
After a few days I developed this irritation in my throat. And subsequently I developed a cold and fever with a wet cough and yellowish mucus from my nose.
Now after so many days... Cold and fever is not there anymore... But I still have that persistent irritation in my throat. And it's very dry.
I'm concerned about the possibility of STI. And I would like to get properly tested to rule out my worries about STI.
Could you please advise me on -
1. Whether I need any STI tests based on this exposure.

* Syphilis (RPR/VDRL with TPHA if needed): Reliable from 6 weeks, with repeat at 3 months if required.
* Gonorrhoea & Chlamydia NAAT: A throat swab is recommended because your exposure was oral. A urine NAAT is also advisable to screen for genital infection.
3. What about your persistent throat irritation?
Your initial fever, cold, cough, and yellow nasal mucus are more suggestive of a viral upper respiratory infection than an STI. However, because your throat irritation has persisted for several weeks after unprotected oral exposure, I recommend an ENT or sexologist examination and a throat NAAT for gonorrhoea/chlamydia if available.
Seek urgent medical care if you develop:
* Severe sore throat with difficulty swallowing
* High fever or swollen neck glands
* Pus on the tonsils that persists
