  4. IOL moved from its position. Doing this?

In 1996 I got my IOL done on my left eye. In 2005 I got RD done on the same eye. Now on 24/5/2017 I started seeing double images of tubelights, lamps, etc. So I went to my eye surgeon and showed my eye. He inspected along with another surgeon and said my IOL has moved from its position. So it needed to be removed and a new lens has to be placed there. My questions : 1. what are the reasons that an IOL move after 20 years of operation ? 2. is there any risk in doing this ? pls explain.

What was the type of iol implanted? Was it an iris claw lens/ACIOL/PCIOL? there can be different causes of subluxation of IOL. If You can send me your doctor's reports it would be more clear.  IOL exchange would be necessary as you are getting double vision and a subluxated IOL can cause other complications like corneal decompensation and secondary glaucoma.  If done properly surgery usually goes smoothly.  Newer techniques like glued IOL are also available.
