Intercourse after pregnancy

I had a c section on 1 dec and I delivered a baby girl. By what time it is safe to have intercourse. At discharge from hospital I was told to keep a break from intercourse till 3 months after delivery. I am looking for more expert opinions. Thanks in advance.
