Just read that the ARB and ACE medicines increase mortality in Covid patients with hypertension co morbidity. Is it safe to have medicine like telma 20 during the corona epidemic or switch to CCB like Amlodipine till there epidemic is over. I am a healthy individual 44 yrs old with mild hypertension taking telma 20 once a day. Please guide.

Continue TELMA 20 No need to change to CCB The guidelines are very clear ARBs don't make the illness more severe There is no evidence that ACEI/ARBs increase chances of contracting COVID-19 On the other hand, there is very very good evidence that they prolong your life, protect your heart and prevent end organ damage

CONTINUE TELMA 20

Yes it has been noted that the virus uses the same receptor(AC) to enter the cell. Hence the risk for severe illness has been a little more than normal individuals. Having said that prevention is better than cure. So you need to try, not to get infected by protecting yourself with appropriate measures. Switching tablets at this hour is a double edged, as those drugs might not manage your hypertension. If they do help your hypertension, then it is beneficial. Therefore I would not suggest to change tablets unless your body is used to CCB.
