Sir, recently I got my son married to a girl whose father is vitiligo. We had not gone in detail but the girl (now my daughter in law) seemingly have no signs so far. I was ignorant previously. After his marriage I come to understand that vitiligo is hereditary. Kindly tell me what are the chances of my daughter in law getting a victim of vitiligo and what are the precautions and treatment we can take to prevent chances of vitiligo developing in my daughter in law and the future generations.

It is not necessary that a person who has history of vitiligo in the family to surely develop vitiligo. So please stop thinking about something you have no control over. There are no tests to find out whether a person will develop it or not. Vitiligo may be hereditary in 10 to 20 percent cases.
