How Can I handle this?

I was in depression in first year of my Engineering, because I was failed in Medical entrance previous years. Then I choose Engineering. I was very brilliant guy back then, but this failure ruined everything. Everyone knows that I have failed, but they don't express their judgment about me in front of me. I feel very embarrassed about this. What should I do now? How can I overcome this hurt? Whenever I see my friends I felt very bad about this failure.

Hi, Do understand your pain and feelings. You have not been successful in clearing the medical entrance exam doesn't mean you are failure. Its just that you missed on some numbers set by that particular course and able to clear engineering by meeting their set standards. . Everybody knows you that you are doing engineering not the other way you think. Only your thoughts are holding you back. Make up your mind and move on with the new phase of life.

Would recommend to seek professional support to deal with your concerns.

Accept that you have depression. Respect the fact that you can have depression. Have a desire to be cured; don't succumb. Inform your loved ones that you are depressed, not about something but everything. If they support you, take them along, if they don't, visit a psychiatrist/neurologist all alone, as soon as possible, so that the damage doesn't manifest itself in your life. Don't fear visiting a doctor, it's a matter of pride to resolve an important issue, and not shame. Consume the medicines on time, don't expect magic. Fill all your time gaps using hobbies, interests, work, studies, entertainment etc, you must not have a second to spare. Don't let your mind be overburdened, share your feelings, insecurities, fears with the few closed ones, or to the God whom you worship, or on sites like Quora, where people listen and connect with your miseries. Make a list of every negative thing in your life. Eliminate them, one by one and cross the items using a red pen. Identify all positive things in your life and remember them daily (your parents, availability of food, shelter and clothing, your education, your breath, healthy body, previous achievements.) See yourself in mirror everyday and shout: 'I am still alive' 'I can still live a wonderful life' 'Nobody can stop me' 'Nothing can break me' (just make sure you don't scare away people) Don't take any stress for any relevant thing like studies, career, everything can wait if it's your health. Be patient. And when you are fully cured, make smile your career, and happiness your goal. Having been so vulnerable and affected by miseries, you now know well what gives you happiness and what gives you stress, keep that in mind for future. And don't forget to help other people going through similar phase.

Hello human! The first step to resolve your concern is to reach out, so thank you for seeking help! Please remember that neither failure nor success defines who you are. Only what YOU think of yourself does. As you mentioned, you’re still the brilliant guy and there is no need to feel embarrassed about failing an entrance exam. If your friends judge you behind your back, they are probably not friends. You may confront them about it. To move ahead in life, you should plan for the future instead of dwelling in the past. Focus on doing your best in Engineering. If you’re feeling depressed, consult a qualified professional or book a session with a counselling psychologist for guidance. Feel free to reach out to me for further help. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care!
