Hole in the retina

How would a patient understand if there is a hole in the retina. I know flashes are a symptom but they can occur even in case of traction. Can anyone explain some unmistakable trigger so that one can understand they might have a tear or a hole??? Or how to recognize the symptom

Hello Unless it is macular hole, you wont know for sure about retinal hole. Retinal hole in peripheral retina does not have any symptoms.dilated eye examination is necessary

In one sentence, the answer would be no one can know with certainty unless it is carefully seen inside the eye by the doctor. Flashes can be there due to many retinal diseases, but with as such there is no particular feature of a flash due to a retinal hole. Whenever you see a flash... You need to get your retina checked.
