Post any kind of exposure where you feel that there is risk of acquiring
HIV infection then and there is an option to take PEP post exposure prophylaxis as early as possible for maximum within 72 hours.
If you haven't taken PEP then you must get your HIV 1 and 2 2 antibody test. Just because there is window period and during that antibody may not be detected despite infection we repeatedly test it for six months to confirm HIV infection. For testing there is a schedule to get it tested for six months after exposure.
HIV antibody test is mainly used to diagnose HIV. HIV RNA viral load is only used after HIV antibody test is positive.
