Hi I am suffering from functional megarectum symptoms like incomplete emptying everytime bad smell due to my past stool holding habits I have to know which tests can detect functional megarectum or show rectal dilatation
Tests to detect functional megarectum / rectal dilatation:
- X-ray Abdomen – may show dilated rectum with fecal loading
- Contrast enema (Barium enema) – shows rectal dilatation / megarectum
- Anorectal manometry – assesses rectal sensation & sphincter function
- MRI Defecography – evaluates rectal emptying & pelvic floor function
- Rectal biopsy (if needed) – to rule out Hirschsprung disease
