First, please be reassured: taking Finasteride 1 mg intermittently for only 10 days will NOT cause permanent hormonal changes, structural gland damage, or lasting reproductive dysfunction. To explain why this happened and what is occurring in your body: Why it Happened: Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that blocks the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). While Finasteride typically lowers semen volume slightly during long-term use, starting and stopping it abruptly creates temporary fluctuations in local prostatic and seminal vesicle secretory dynamics. Furthermore, experiencing prolonged sexual arousal and brief erectile anxiety causes increased fluid accumulation in the seminal vesicles and prostate gland. When it Will Go Away: Hyperspermia (high semen volume, typically defined as >5.5 mL per ejaculate) following a brief 10-day exposure is a self-limiting, temporary physiological rebound. As your local tissue levels of Finasteride clear completely and your neuroendocrine axis stabilizes, your semen volume will naturally return to its baseline within 2 to 4 weeks after stopping the medication. Recovery Progression: The fact that your erectile dysfunction resolved quickly confirms that your vascular and neural pathways are completely intact and recovered.
Next Steps
Monitor the Trend Over 2 to 3 Weeks: Allow your body time to recalibrate without constantly checking or worrying about exact ejaculate volume, as anxiety can alter pelvic autonomic tone. Consult a Urologist or Dermatologist before Restarting Finasteride: If you originally took Finasteride for androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss), consult a specialist to evaluate whether restarting with a structured, consistent schedule—or exploring topical Finasteride—is better suited for you to prevent hormonal fluctuation. Semen Analysis (If Symptoms Persist): If high volume persists beyond 4 weeks or is accompanied by testicular discomfort, pelvic pain, or cloudy urine, visit a urologist to perform a routine semen analysis and rule out low-grade seminal vesicle inflammation or accessory gland congestion.
Health Tips
Avoid starting, stopping, or altering hormone-modifying medications like Finasteride intermittently. Repeatedly starting and stopping anti-androgenic medications creates fluctuating serum drug levels, which increases the likelihood of transient sexual side effects compared to a steady daily regimen under medical supervision. Maintain Adequate Hydration: Stay well-hydrated and maintain regular, unforced ejaculatory frequency to allow normal fluid turnover in the accessory sex glands. Hyperspermia is Generally Harmless: Higher semen volume alone is medically benign, does not negatively impact fertility, and causes no physical harm to the body.

Taking finasteride 1 mg intermittently for about 10 days is unlikely to cause permanent changes in sexual function. Finasteride can affect sexual symptoms in some people, but an increased semen volume after a short course is not a typical or reliable indicator of sexual damage. A prolonged period of arousal, longer interval between ejaculations, hydration status and normal variation can all make semen appear more abundant temporarily. Also, 14 days of noticing increased semen volume does not by itself mean that you have pathological hyperspermia. The fact that your erectile function has already returned to normal is reassuring.
Next Steps
For now, avoid repeatedly checking or comparing the amount of semen after every ejaculation, as this can increase anxiety and make normal fluctuations seem abnormal. Give your body some time to return to its usual pattern. If the increased volume remains consistently unusual for a prolonged period, or you develop associated symptoms such as pain during ejaculation, blood in semen, urinary symptoms or persistent changes in sexual function, an in-person evaluation would be appropriate. Health Tips
Maintain adequate hydration, regular physical activity, good sleep and a balanced lifestyle. Avoid prolonged sexual stimulation when it is causing discomfort or anxiety, and don't repeatedly measure semen volume because semen quantity naturally varies considerably between ejaculations depending on sexual frequency and other factors. Most importantly, an apparently larger ejaculate after a short period of medication use does not mean that your reproductive system has been permanently affected. Thank you
