Hi my son is now 14 days old. He had bilirubin level of 18 mg/dl. Later he went through phototherapy for 2 days and his level came to 14.5. He got discharged after this. We still see bit yellow on his eyes and below neck, so after doctor suggestion we got one more test Today and result are Direct 1.4 mg/dl and indirect is 12.4 mg/dl. Please guide us. Also let us know why is it taking so much time for the levels to come to normal. Please help. Thejas

No phototherapy needed at present. But if the condition remains same need to be evaluated. Direct bilirubin is higher side. Repeat serum bilirubin test after 24 hrs. Give proper breast feeding. See a child specialist with reports

Some amount of bilirubin is present in all breast feeding babies. Any level below 15 at this age is normal. Yet, its better to have a detailed history n examintation done. A follow up visit to the pediatrician is advisable.
