PFO is small hole between two upper chambers of heart. This hole is there in all babies before birth and closes after birth. In few babies it do persists for sometime even after birth. Most likely it will heal by itself...you just need to follow up with 6 monthly ECHO to know the status. No this can’t be a reason for WALRI. Ideally PCV 13 vaccine should be given to all children. Govt is not providing its free because of its cost. PCV 13 is for protection against pneumonia and meningitis. Recurrent WALRI can predispose your child for pneumonia. It’s better to get that vaccine. Because of PFO you child can get recurrent chest infection.
