Hello Coal burning in open space is okay but still generated carbon monoxide which is not good for lungs - it might lead to death if you are inhaling for long period

Burning objects like wood/ dried leaves/ coal, etc. for warmth is a traditional method to make the environment acceptable to human beings. Inhaling smoke for a prolonged period of time has health effects. Long term exposure to such air can even cause lung cancer. Short term exposure can lead to breathlessness.
Next Steps
Cover the space where objects are being burned like a chamber / chimney.
Health Tips
Warm clothes or multi layered dresses may be a solution for extreme winter climate. Hot beverages like tea / coffee/ soup should be consumed.
