- As I can see, the MRI report shows descent of tonsils below the level of foramen magnum, without syrinx- a condition called Chiari malformation 1.
- This requires a surgery called Foramen Magnum decompression.
- You can opt for surgery right away. But alternatively, if you are apprehensive about surgery, you can try observation for 3-6 months, with MRI repeated after 3-6 months. If there is no worsening on imaging or no worsening of symptoms, continue observation.
- But if there is worsening of symptoms or if the repeat MRI shows new appearance of syrinx- go for surgery right away..
- There are no cures other than surgery for this diagnosis..
