Not only can rabies be transmitted through bites, but also through licking. If an infected animal licks another animal or human, then it can transmit the fatal disease. The rabies virus cannot pass through intact skin, but can only enter skin that is punctured or open. So wash your hands thoroughly after touching a rabid dog before eating.
