You’ve had a FibroScan, and your 8.7 kPa score suggests early-stage liver stiffness, which may indicate mild fibrosis (Stage F1–F2). Your CAP (Controlled Attenuation Parameter) score of 175 dB/m is on the lower side, suggesting mild or no significant fat accumulation (steatosis) in the liver. While moderate social drinking might seem harmless, any amount of alcohol can potentially worsen liver stiffness if you already have fibrosis. Even once a week can: • Promote liver inflammation or progression of fibrosis. • Interact negatively if you’re on liver-supportive medication. • Counteract lifestyle or dietary efforts to reduce liver stiffness. Best recommendation: Avoid alcohol completely — at least until your liver stiffness improves or returns to a normal level. Advise: 1. Completely stop alcohol – even “moderate” drinking slows liver healing. 2. Maintain a healthy weight – BMI reduction improves fibrosis scores. 3. Exercise regularly 4. Eat a liver-friendly diet: • High in fruits, vegetables, whole grains • Low in sugar, red meat, fried or processed foods • Mediterranean-style diet is best 5. Monitor for metabolic issues – control diabetes, high cholesterol, and triglycerides. 6. Avoid unnecessary medications/supplements that stress the liver. 7. Repeat FibroScan every 6–12 months to monitor changes. Please share your history and results of investigations done, including liver function tests. Then I can help you further.
