Paracetamol helps reduce fever temporarily but does not treat the underlying cause. It is common for fever to rise again once the effect of the medicine wears off.
For a 24 kg child, ensure that the correct dose of paracetamol is being given (15 mg/kg/dose every 4–6 hours as needed, not exceeding the recommended daily dose). Encourage adequate fluids and light meals.
Please monitor for associated symptoms such as cough, cold, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, rash, burning during urination, or lethargy, as these may help identify the cause. If the fever persists beyond 48–72 hours, becomes very high, or your child develops breathing difficulty, excessive sleepiness, dehydration, seizures, or appears very unwell, seek medical evaluation promptly.
At present, a single day of fever with temporary response to paracetamol is most commonly due to a viral infection and can be observed closely.
