Diffuse thinning of hairs can be a feature of Telogen effluvium or Female androgenetic alopecia. In female type of androgenetic alopecia frontal and parietal thinning with reduced density of hairs is the feature. In Telogen effluvium, hair fall is more than normal and there is some mild uniform reduction in density. While Telogen effluvium rather responds easily to treatment, the androgenetic alopecia is rather difficult.
