My male child who is now 3 months old has his belly button projected out. He had premature birth, nearly 2 months preterm. Now umbelical scan reveals umbelical hernia. Is surgery unavoidable. If so, how urgent it is. Needless to say that web want to avoid surgery. Many people advise us that they had similar issue which got cured by itself by massaging etc. Please advise.

Hi ... umbilical hernia usually comes down on it's own by 4 years of age or before . It is not harmful ...If it doesn't subside after 4 years then surgery may be considered...Avoid massage or bandage etc
