When its too late to start rabies vaccine after exposure??I have read that as rabies has a long incubation period so we can be safe if we take vaccine before the development of symptoms..i.e if Vaccine is taken in incubation period then we are safe...If the virus enters the brain then symptons occur so if we take vaccine before the virus enters the brain then we are safe,is it so??..Now my case 2 dog had bitten me little bit in 2001-2002 but at that time i have not taken vaccine,Later after 6-7 years i got worry and took 3 vaccine in 2008..Total i have taken 17 vaccines from 2008-2012..But the dog bite of 2001-2002 does not get out of mind, always i used to fear that i may get rabies in future,And its effecting my Life badly..Can i get rabies in Future??If yes then give a way to protect myself. If No then say it with sureity.please sir/mem take me out of this tention, otherwise i will die of depression..Though i have taken vaccine lately but i have taken before the virus enters to brain.

Now that you have been vaccinated. There is no possibility of you getting rabies as you have developed ANTIBODIES against rabies antigen. Stay relaxed and happy. You are safe.

Since the dog bite was in 2001 and 2002, if you had acquired rabies you would've developed symptoms of rabies such as fever, convulsions, etc. at that time but since you didn't, the dogs that bit you is likely to not have been a carrier for rabies virus. The vaccinations you took from 2008-2012 wasn't necessary but now you're covered for it with the antibodies in your system. So you needn't worry as you show no symptoms of rabies.

Hello there.  I can understand your concern.  You have taken so many shots of the vaccination. There is no such incidence where a person has developed rabies after so many years. Rabies is a disease with 100 percent fatality. Since you havent had any symptoms, proves that you do not have rabies. You are just stressing out. Best regards. Dr. Anil kumar jain. Bangalore.
