Divarication and hernia

I have 10cm divarication and umbilical hernia 3cm after child birth. I have been advised to go for divarication+ hernia correction by abdominoplasty. I  do not want to go for a very big surgery and want to get my hernia repaired. Is it not possible to only repair the hernia laparoscopically (and not open surgery) and leave divarication as it is? Will be  there be chances of hernia recurrence? Is it possible to strengthen abdominal muscles and reduce divarication by core strengthening exercises?

Abdominoplasty is the better option as you have both divarication and umbilical hernia. But, need to remember that further  pregnancy in the future has to be avoided.
Next Steps
Get CECT of abdomen

Diverication of recti looks like hernia and also u have umbilical hernia it is better to do abdominal wall reconstruction surgery bcuz if u do hernia repair only then chances of recurrence is more in diverication of recti bcuz of abdominal content push the repair so it’s better to do both repair at same surgery
Next Steps
U should also go for CT abdomen to look for volume of abdomen to reduce abdominal compartment syndrome
Health Tips
Weight reduction avoid smoking and alcohol bcuz these factors disturb in collegen synthesis

Yes, laparoscopic repair of the umbilical hernia alone is possible, leaving diastasis recti untreated. However, wide divarication increases recurrence risk. Core-strengthening exercises can improve muscle tone and symptoms but usually do not close a 10 cm separation. Decision should balance symptoms, recurrence risk, and recovery expectations. Take your time and make the right decision
