Dark lips & pigmentation

I have dark lips due to smoking and there is some pigmentation which is not going. I want to know whether chemical peel or laser treatment will fix this problem? It looks odd and I am getting married soon. I used to smoke before but quit one year back now not smoking but tried creams which didn't fix this issue. Consulted dermatologist but not effective.
