Daily using 500 stairs as an exercise

Hello Dr..we live in an apartment. 20 storied building..I am going in stairs two times. That is 40 floors - 500 steps, as an exercise. This type of exercise is convenient for me as a working mother..Lot of people are advising me not to do this,because of knee replacement problems in future..is this true? It may damage my knees soon? Please guide. TIA
