Better not to give any cough suppressant. Important to find out cause of chronic cough, rather than giving cough suppressant. Usually post-viral cough persists for 1 month, which is natural. During this time, you can give home-made "kada", honey, do warm saline gurgles or give nasal saline drops. If only night-time cough, then it may be asthma which requires inhalers. Please consult pediatrician properly for finding out cause of cough
