Please consult a pulmonologist who can examine your father and decide on the severity of the asthma.

Hi. I understand your concern s. If it is asthma  he will need to undergo a pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis as well as to assess severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. Other factors also play a role . Consult a pulmonologist for the same at the earliest.

If it is asthma, lot of factors depend upon relief from symptoms. Approach a good chest physician and get your medicines along to show to your doctor. Asthma is not curable but can be controlled so that person can live a normal life.
