Viral infection is a common trigger for wheeze. First if your doctor has noticed frequent wheeze, then corticosteroid inhaler is the treatment of choice. There is nothing which can cause dependency on inhaler. Inhalers are preferred over oral medicines for the reason to reduce side effects. But still there is side effects so should consider benefit over risk.
