Constant chest pains

I have had constant chest pains for almost 3-4 years. The hospital said it was because my cartilage was inflamed. My doctor gave me medicine to take only when it hurts and lately it seems to be worse like it was when I was originally sent to the hospital except when I went to the hospital it would also hurt when I breathed but it isn't now. Over the last year, I have had mono 3 times. Could the mono be causing my chest to hurt more because when I didn't have mono it barely hurt?
