Cold and cough in pregnancy

Hello, i am 14 weeks pregnant. Have contracted a severe cold and cough with sore throat. Until now whenever i get cold and cough it doesnt get better till our family gp prescribes heavy antibiotics. But i am scared to take any medicines this time. Please advise on what medicines i can take,which will be safe for my unborn baby in order to get relief from said symptoms as am in great distress. Pls help !
