Hello. For a bacterial tonsillitis, any penicillin group of antibiotics (Amoxicillin or Amoxicillin with Clavulanate) are usually the first choice. Enlarged tonsils doesn't necessarily mean tonsillitis and hence antibiotics should not be used regularly/ self medicated. Repeated infection of the tonsils and persistently enlarged tonsils can be cured completely only by surgery.
Next Steps
ENT consultation if there is repeated episodes of sore throat. Consider surgery if the symptoms are chronic in nature.
Health Tips
Avoid cold foods, good oral hygiene.
