Yes there are risks understood at research level that compared to patient who never underwent cholecystectomy has lesser chance of developing further cancer than those who undergo gallbladder removal.
It is still at experimental theory levels (possibilities like)
Direct bile exposure, altered intestinal bacterial flora and some metabolic changes with respect to cholesterol.
Studies are still on process to pinpoint such process.
It’s a debate. There are strict protocols to follow before choosing a patient for cholecystectomy.
A cholecystectomy is done at the virtue of saving a patient of the pain or the anticipated life threatening complications they might land on.
In my personal opinion any surgery will be weighed upon the benefits and risk a patient faces.
